My Father's Belated Birthday

We celebrated Nenek's belated birthday in a simple way. He did not want it to be so grand..so we decided to postpone his birthday so that he did not expect anything. It took place at our home sweet home and we told him that there would be a family dinner. But secretly my sister brought along an ice-cream birthday cake.
Above ~ Happy Habibi....

Uniquely Singapore (Part II)

Again...I would like to share our pictures during the trip. Since the time was very limited, we decided not to waste time...especially during the CRAZY SALE season. We took some rest, prayed and got things settled down at the hotel...then at exactly 1.30 p.m. our driver fetched us to Robinson's. Wow...Wow...Wow....it was really A CRAZY SALE! I just could not resist to shop at Mothercare. Luckily there was a 'fire-engine' placed at the entrance...so I could have my quality time to browse at the kids' clothes. But Ayah had to take care of her heeeheee.
Habibati was having her good time riding the 'fire-engine' with her Barbie. Guess what? Ayah spent SD$5 for the ride..she did not want to get out of it.
Below - Taking some snaps with this Mr Lion(...mmm...although we did not have time to go to the Merlion and and Raffle's Statues...this one was considered enough! LOL)

Then we stopped at Marks and Spenser...also the price was truly irresistable! I bought some tops for my kids. Not forgetting the biscuits, cookies, sweets and chocolates. I also bought couples of the butter animal biscuits to bring back home as the kids love them very much. Our sleeping beauty....wearing her newly bought pair of Bubblegummers comfortable sandals. When she woke up we treated her with a macadamia ice-cream at Haagen-Dazs. This small-sized cup cost us SD6++ however the taste was grade A++.

Picture snappings outside the walkways outside Robinson's. We spent almost 5 hours there...

Today's diary...

The second term school holiday is just round the corner *happy* so tomorrow will be the last day of the school. There will be some sort of 'makan-makan' tomorrow...wondering what shall I make and bring to school?....yeah..cupcakes! I started making them in the morning and stopped at 12 noon. I made some orders too.
At 3.45p.m. we went to JPMC Paediatric for Habibati's appointment. She was scheduled to have her second dose of the influenza injection. She doesnot put on weight, surprising she is still 13.1kg. She is progressing well as told by the paediatrician. However, I am advised to breastfeed her less as she is now 2 years and 3months old. Not only that she needs to have more formula milk and family food for growing up.
Then we went to Hua Ho to do some grocery shopping and our early dinner at Sbinati. Arrived home around six. At 7.30p.m. I continued again frosting the remaining cupcakes. That's our Friday...

Uniquely Singapore (Part I)

Salam...Hi....my dear cyber buddies..
Here I'm back into the cyber world again..to resume the blogging activity...*winks*
By the way, I would love to convey my thankfulness for your thoughtfulness to hop in here while I was away..yea..Singapore...that's it. So who is the luckiest in the guessing game???? I think you know who you are....ehem..ehem...
Alright...I will share some pictures about the trip. Was it a vacation? mmmm...not really....! But I was actually attending the Mathematics Teachers' Conference 2009 held at the National Institute of Education in Singapore. Before I bore you...let me stop talking (via writing of course!) and let the pictures do the explanation ok.....
We went off to the airport at 6 a.m. already. Why so early? Since my ticket was the government-paid one, thus I had to request my seat to be together with my hubby and Habibati. *Happy* It was a success!

Above - Before taking off....I had to give Habibati a pacifier to reduce the feeling of the "blocked" ears.
Below - Opps! Barbie was so lucky that she entitled a free ticket to Singapore too!

Above - The sleeping beauty on board...we were glad that Habibati did not cry during the flight but slept peacefully and woke up just before the plane landed.

Above - The 5-star hotel where we stayed.....our room was numbered 905. This hotel is 100% smoking-free...excellent! It is in heart of the famous Orchard Area where the "shopping spree" is everywhere.

The lobby at night...I love the beautiful welcoming fragrant giant candles...with little candles. The lobby was sweetly-scented every night...mmmm..romantically lovely!

Below - Snaping pix through the mirror..

Let me stop here...will continue again...oooooo....I miss Singapore....

Bitter To Be Better

I love vegies...I would love to share one of my favourite dishes namely "pan-fried bittergourds with spicy soya bean paste". These are the Taiwanese bittergourds which has a high degree of bitterness. For those health-concerns will surely love them very much.
Okay..let's get started...
The ingredients are...

....and of course a little cooking oil, salt and sugar to taste.

Steps...firstly, fry the shallots, garlics and chillies till fragrant. Then, pop in the soya bean paste. Mix well and then put in the small shrimps. Lastly the cut bittergourds. Add some salt and sugar to taste. Wait till the bittergourds are half-cooked (my style, to maintain the crunchiness) and the gravy thickens.

Last but not the least, enjoy!!

A little info about the nutritional benefits of eating bitter gourds

Bitter gourds are very low in calories but dense with precious nutrients. It is an excellent source of vitamins B1, B2, and B3, C, magnesium, folic acid, zinc, phosphorus, manganese, and has high dietary fiber. It is rich in iron, contains twice the beta-carotene of broccoli, twice the calcium of spinach, and twice the potassium of a banana.
Bitter melon contains a unique phyto-constituent that has been confirmed to have a hypoglycemic effect called charantin. There is also another insulin-like compound known as polypeptide P which have been suggested as insulin replacement in some diabetic patients.

A Singaporean Lunch...

There is a Singaporean Restaurant here namely.....

The deco was cozy...homey...

We went there for lunch. Habibati was coming along. We couldnt bring Habibi because he was asleep and got angry to be woken up. So, he stayed at home with our maid.

The cuisines that we tried...Mee Rebus Singapura. It was with yellow noodles..I gave an 8 out of 10.My Chocolate Shake (but it looked more like blended milo)....and my rate for this one is 7 out of 10.
My hubby's choice...Tornado Fried Rice. I knew he chose this one because of its unique name...the taste was rated 8 out of 10.

Above was Habibati's portion...Chicken Rice, the rice was tasty..but the chicken was neither steamed nor roasted but fried. So, she didn't really like the chicken. This one below was the 'add-on' menu...Lontong Singapura. For this I'm so generous that I gave 9 out of 10...meaning yummy yummy yummy!
We will surely return...to taste more dishes there....
